Team Scoring Help

Learn how Nautical Cloud calculates and ranks multi‑boat teams across divisions and rating authorities.

Scoring Methods

Choose the method that best suits your event’s format. Ranking scopes (By Division, By Rating Authority, Cross Divisional) are available where indicated.

1) Decimal Standing Finishers

Teams are scored using the decimal standing of each boat within its group or division.

  • Decimal standing is calculated as: Position ÷ Number of Boats in Division (e.g. 1st of 100 boats = 0.01, 10th = 0.10).
  • The decimal standings of a team’s boats are summed; the team with the lowest total wins.

Ranking options
By Division · By Rating Authority (e.g. IRC, ORC) · Cross Divisional (uses placing within each boat’s own division).

Note: Boats must only be entered into one division.

Tip
This method normalises large and small divisions by proportion, making it ideal for mixed‑size fleets.

2) Total Corrected Time

Teams are ranked by the lowest combined corrected time of all team members.

  • All boats must finish.
  • Applicable by Division only; you must select the division.

3) Manual Points

Race organisers may allocate points manually for each team.

  • Enter team points directly in the results interface.
  • Select the ranking mode: Low Points (lowest wins) or High Points (highest wins).
Useful for discretionary awards or formats where organisers set team scores independently of individual race results.

4) Use a Single Class’s Series Score

Uses the existing Series Score from another class or series as the team’s score for this race.

  • Only works if the referenced class is scored into a cumulative Series Table.
  • You must select the class/series to use.

5) Overall Fleet Points (Finishers Method)

Each boat earns fleet points based on finishing position within its division:

Formula: Fleet Points = N − P + 1 where N = total number of finishers in the division and P = boat’s finishing position on corrected time.

  • Division winner scores N, second scores N − 1, … last finisher scores 1.
  • Boats not scored a finish receive 0 points.
  • The team with the highest aggregate wins. Ties remain tied (no tiebreak).

Options Applicable to All Methods

Allow Entrants to Form Teams

Enables self‑service team creation. Entrants can apply to a team and add members from boats already entered.

All Team Members Must Finish

Only rank teams where every member has a finish. Teams with a non‑finisher are excluded from the table.

No Penalties Allowed

If any member has a scoring penalty, the team is excluded from the team ranking.

Example Use Cases

  • Club vs Club Trophy: Decimal Standing or Fleet Points across multiple divisions.
  • Nation’s Cup: Total Corrected Time grouped by rating authority.
  • Pro‑Am Challenge: Manual Points or Series Score when organisers determine outcomes.
